One of the best pieces of advice I have been given on grief is that carrying it is like lifting weights; the weight doesn’t change, you just get stronger, and better at lifting it, with time. I think an important part of that analogy for me, which might not have been part of its original intentions, is also how if you want to become stronger/better at lifting the weight, you have to adopt the right techniques and self care to do so. I think that’s also true for grief.
